I take it you think God is misleading -— or misled —— concerning the devil?

I'm a Torah believer, and believe the “serpent” to have been God himself, testing His Creation.

There's apocryphal material in the Nevi’im and Ketuvim, but the Old Testament doesn't concern itself too much with Ol’ Scratch.

While there is abundant evidence for God throughout Creation, there is NO evidence for the “devil” until he is abstracted through the human mind, primarily as an agent responsible for Man's failures, even lessening Man's own responsibilities.
