Robert Benne is one of the strongest conservative voices in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He has been part of the "loyal opposition" and a frequent speaker at LutheranCORE events.

It is amazing that the ELCA would choose to web publish his paper.

Mostly spot on, but when it comes to Muslim immigrants I am jihadiphobic and proud of it!

You and I would both like to see more Orthodox Christian immigrants though right?

The XXXA is not a Lutheran church body.

According to the President of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the homosexual- and female-ordaining XXXA is now “embodying apostasy.”

Is this that branch of the Lutheran church that’s sided with the Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions movement against Israel and has demanded that the USA cut off all aid to the nation of Israel?

Just wondering.

It is.

I left that apostate entity six years ago.

Alright.

Do you have any idea if these Lutheran evangelists send people walking around neighborhoods knocking on doors and proselytizing to folks?

If there are Lutherans doing door to door evangelism they are most likely from any entity OTHER than than the ELCA.

More likely from one the smaller, conservative groups.

As a life-long Lutheran who left the ELCA in 2005, I am perfectly comfortable in supporting Donald Trump. I would be surprised to see an ELCA member who would agree with me.

I am at home in the LCMS.

I agree. In 1987, when I told a Presbyterian friend of mine that a few Lutheran groups would merge and form the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, he said, “I’m surprised ‘evangelical’ is in the name. I never heard of any Lutherans going door-to-door, to talk about their church.” I said that I was surprised by the name, too.

If I thought the race would be close, in my state, Illinois, I’d vote for Trump, since I don’t want to help split the anti-Clinton vote, helping Clinton win IL. I know that Clinton will win about 56%, in IL, so I’ll vote for a conservative, probably Darrell Castle, of the Constitution Party.

There are many (now) ELCA congregations founded in the early 20th century which have "Evangelical" in their legal name.

One reason may be that in Germany the Lutherans are called the Evangelichekirche

In the Chicago area, I heard of a few Lutheran churches that have “evangelical” in their names. They were probably founded by German immigrants, but I didn’t know that until I read your last comment.
