Does anyone want to think for a minute if South Korea really wants reunification? That’s like taking in my white trash relatives from Appalachia and the Ozarks. Maintaining my own teeth are expensive enough. Pay for someone who has none? Do the Venezuela experiment I suggested. Carpet bomb with MRE’S. Put a U.S. symbol on it along with(in this case) a cross.
“White trash relatives” is a poor analogy. These are brainwashed, intimidated, pliable and seriously malnourished individuals with diminished mental capacity. In 7 decades, North and South Koreans have become vastly different as a result of the former’s dreadful oppression and treatment, so much so that even physically, South Koreans are tall and more robust while their Nork cousins are the size of adolescent children (and far lower IQs and poorer health).
Whereas “White Trash” often revel in their status, at any point, they could lift themselves out of it, and generally aren’t malnourished. Norks don’t have such opportunities to be lifted out or easy access to food, junk or healthy.
“Does anyone want to think for a minute if South Korea really wants reunification?”
I’ve asked the same question. I wonder how deeply the South Koreans want reunification - that is, if queried in detail about it.
North Korea is a basketcase of a country - economically, socially, etc. The people there (more so in the rural area) are so mind-numbed by the regime that the actual $ amount spent in trying to incorporate the North into the South would be beyond astronomical.
I’m not even talking about the $ amount spent upgrading the former North’s electrical, electronic and transportation infrastructure so that it’s on a remotely even par with the South. That alone would be huge.
In addition, how do you take millions of people who have been mentally, socially and nutrtionally deprived and try to bring them up to speed with the South?
If they're sane, they don't. They can't afford it. North Korea is orders of magnitude worse than East Germany. Unifying Germany almost broke it; may have. The jury is still out on that, IMO.
