Methane is derived from organic (living) material. Nope. While living creatures might produce methane, it also occurs naturally. The atmosphere of Jupiter, for example, contains methane, ammonia, and ethane. Are you claiming that there is life there producing it?

Methane is just a carbon atom with four hydrogen atoms attached to it. It is believed that Jupiter’s moon Titan has oceans of liquid methane.
