How Praise is Linked to Victory in the Hebrew Language
One for Israel ^ | 8/4/16

Yeshua specifically promised us that "In this world you will have trouble" (John 16:33). The question is not whether we will experience difficulties, but what how we respond when we find ourselves in a pickle.

Habakkuk was a man in a tight spot. His book is one of angst and woe, desperately seeking God's help in times of trouble. But after outlining all the desperate straits that he and his countrymen are in, he ends on an extremely interesting and unusual note. The last verse says this:

"God, the Lord, is my strength, and He makes my feet like hinds' feet, and He makes me to walk upon my high places. For the choirmaster. With my string-music."

"For the choirmaster. With my string-music." Nowhere else in the Bible is this phrase found except at the beginning of Psalms. It seems to be in the wrong place. Why does he say that, right at the end? The clue might be in the Hebrew meaning of the word we translate as "choirmaster"... In the Hebrew, the word for choirmaster, מנצח (menatzeach) is a very interesting one The root word is נצח which also is connected to ideas of eternity (netzach) and victory (nitzachon). It can also mean to shine or be bright, to be perpetual, famous or lead. It is this last sense in which we understand that Habakkuk is referring to a leader of music. Another clue we have is that the sentence beforehand is mentioned two other times in the Bible; once in Psalm 18, when David sings of his need and his trust that God will rescue him from his enemies. The second time it appears is in 2 Samuel 22, which is that same Psalm, written in the context of the unfolding history of Saul and David's difficult story.

Habakkuk refers back to David's song of confidence in God, written in times of trouble. Both he and David have understood the importance of the kind of trust that can sing and make music in praise to God, even while the situation looks bleak. David begins his Psalm by addressing the choirmaster or leader - the menatzeach - and sets out to praise with song, declaring his certainty in God's victory on his behalf. Habakkuk ends with that idea, and adds "with my stringed instruments" or "string-music", for praise can be at its most powerful when sung in the dark, and most terrifying to the enemy.

In contrast with what some people imagine, God does not demand our praises because he is insecure or a megalomaniac - rather it is rightful, fitting, and lifts our eyes to where our help comes from. In praise, our resolve can be strengthened and our confidence in God is boosted, as we remember who He is and what He can do. Our hearts can become full again of gratitude instead of anxiety and fear, and gratitude is one of the best weapons that there is against temptation and the victim mentality which leads us into a sense of wrongful entitlement. Our faith can rise, and our willingness to wait patiently for God's help expands. Instead of slipping into idolatry as we grasp at straws, we once again see our good Father God, and put our hand safely in his.

[[It was not for nothing that God appointed worshipers to lead into battle. It is no coincidence that the idea of the word for the leader of worship is connected with victory. When we find ourselves in troubles and cannot see our way out, we can join David and Habakkuk in confidently singing songs of praise and trust in the dark, that God will overcome our enemies and ultimately lead us out in victory.]]

Case in point: the Song of Moses — “I will sing unto the Lord for He has triumphed gloriously, the horse and rider thrown into the sea!”

Case in point: the Song of Deborah;

Case in point: “Saul has killed his thousands, but David his tens of thousands!”

19. The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like those of a deer, and he guides me upon my high places; To the choirmaster on my stringed instruments:

Divine orchestration.

2.arrange or direct the elements of (a situation) to produce a desired effect, especially surreptitiously:

arrange or direct the elements of (a situation) to produce a desired effect

>>>he guides me upon my high places<<<

Speaking of which, take the very pinnacle of human and American achievement: putting a man on the moon, and returning him safely back to earth.

The vision, the planning, the execution... all the thousands of fine details that needed to be just so. It was a miracle.

Now when a man stands for the first time on another world, and speaks a message down to earth (everybody was watching), best to pay attention. It was a message literally delivered from the heavens to the earth... by a human being.

Hoax conspiracies aside, who truly choreographed that event? Who's stage was that, anyway? Whose script was that?

The message was exactly the message:

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

Man has debated the existence of the indefinite article. Did Armstrong misspeak? Was there a transmission blip? Did he say it too quickly? On and on. A "mistake", because as it came out (regardless of how), "man" had the same meaning as "mankind", making a small step also a giant leap.

Paradoxically, he ended up saying the same thing twice.

So whose script was that? The one who takes care to repeat His messages. A message pronounced straight from the heavens to all of humanity (via a human being no less) is about as awesome and important as they get. First time. All eyes and ears were on that event.

Divine orchestration; Divine script. People got hung up on the supposed error and missed the *doubled* message sent literally from above. Literally, as in manifested in the physical world and perceived with physical senses.

On July 20, 1969, a man on the moon relayed to us that a small step for mankind, was also a giant leap for mankind.

Kind of like the little saying, "All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds of today."

Flowers just go about their life cycles, producing seed. Small steps. Over many generations of flowers, and with much thought and careful arrangement, a meticulous hydridizer can direct the seeds to cross in just the right way, in order to produce the perfect flower.

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

For reference.

July 20, 1969:

Torah: Dev 3.23-4.4
Haftarah for Parshat Va'etchanan : Isaiah 40

1. Comfort my people, comfort them, says your God:
2. Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry to her, that her fighting is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she has received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins:
3. A voice cries, Prepare in the wilderness the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God:
4. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it:

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

A Difficult Haftarah

By Rabbi Dr. Gidon Rothstein

Haftarot like this one raise a thorny problem. What if important truths about how the world works, how our relationship with God should work, how our future as a people and individuals can, should, and will go, was embedded in a difficult text?

>>>

It seems like a first stage of comfort is figuring out how to bring it, dealing with such issues as what background will shape it and who will be the major actor(s) in inaugurating it.

By background, I mean Isaiah’s statement that Jerusalem will be comforted for having taken “double” for all her sins. While some commentators minimize the implications of this (such as Targum Jonathan, who reads it as meaning we will be comforted as if we were punished double what we deserved), Rashi understands it literally, that we will have been punished both for our actual sins as well as for having continued the sinful ways of our forefathers.

That latter concept is so foreign in our times that it bears explaining. Rashi assumes that we bear culpability not only for the evil we create, but also the evil we continue.

>>>

Flattening the Way Physically or Metaphorically

Isaiah is told in verses 3-5 to predict that the way will be flattened before God. Rashi and some Midrashim read the verse as telling us that at the time of the Redemption, the roads will be flattened to ease the path home. Since Midrashim think that happened when the Jews left Egypt as well, this reading sees the Exodus as a first example of the kind of progression to Israel we will experience in the future. The implication, I believe, is that had we only acted properly, that might have been the only time we entered the Land of Israel.

Befitting the rationalist he was, Radak assumes the verse should be taken metaphorically, that it means the road back will be as easy as if it had been flattened. That ease, according to Radak, will itself lead Jews and others to recognize God’s hand (with interesting ramifications for whether going back on a plane, almost at one’s will, counts as redemption).

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

>>>

Verses 3-11: The Link Between Our Involvement in Redemption and God’s

These nine verses contain three versions of how the Voice will go out to announce the redemption, each assuming a different level of Divine involvement. At first, we are told of a Voice calling from the desert, a distant Voice, to speak of the flattening of the roads. The distance means the involvement of God will only be perceivable to those who pay attention.

Then, the Voice tells Isaiah to call out, confusing him as to what he, a human, could have to say. At the same time as he is being encouraged to issue his call, he is told that the Jews should only rely on God, not other peoples. After that, in the third version, the harbinger of Zion is told to call out, with no details at all, seeming to leave up to him how to phrase it. It is precisely here, however, that God speaks most directly of coming “Himself” as it were.

The verses don’t say it explicitly, but seem to me to hint at a linkage between how active we are in bringing redemption and how involved God will be. Counter-intuitively, the more active we are, the more direct a Divine role we can expect. As the Midrash says elsewhere, if we make a small opening for God, God will expand it almost immeasurably.

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

>>>

The Might of God: Believing is the First Step

The rest of the haftarah focuses on God’s power, His not needing advice or assistance, His plans being largely beyond human ken [?], implicit discussions of how God created the world, the nature of the Heavens and His relationship to the world through those Heavens, and other esoteric matters of God’s power as compared to the powerlessness of the idols.

At the close, the last two verses add one more element to that discussion, speaking of how God knows the stars by name.

A Difficult Haftarah

9. You who bring good news to Zion, get up to the high mountain; You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say to the cities of Judah, Behold your God:
10. Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his hire before him:

12. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and marked out the heavens with a span, and enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance:

15. Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance; behold, he takes up the islands as fine dust:

21. Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth:
22. It is he who sits upon the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are as grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in:

After describing the surface dust as "very fine-grained" and "almost like a powder," six and a half hours after landing, Armstrong stepped off Eagle's footpad and declared, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."

35. To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other beside him:
36. From heaven he made you hear his voice, that he might instruct you; and upon earth he showed you his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire:

Apollo 11 was the first spaceflight that landed humans on the Moon. Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on July 20, 1969, at 20:18 UTC. Armstrong became the first to step onto the lunar surface six hours later on July 21 at 02:56:15 UTC; Aldrin joined him about 20 minutes later. They spent about two and a quarter hours together outside the spacecraft, and collected 47.5 pounds (21.5 kg) of lunar material for return to Earth. The third crew member, Michael Collins, piloted the Command Module Columbia alone in lunar orbit while they were on the Moon's surface. Armstrong and Aldrin spent just under a day on the lunar surface before rendezvousing with Columbia in lunar orbit.

Jesus taught the disciples much about how foolish it is to focus on temporal wealth (see Matt. 6:19-21).

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

His soul is in the treasuries (storehouses, archives) on high.

It's about weather forecasting.

Mat 16

1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Red sky at night
Sailor's delight.
Red sky in morning
Sailor's warning.

John 2

13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.

20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

This temple of the Jews that was 46 years in building [by Herod] = house of merchandise
But Jesus spoke of the temple of HIS body.

1 Pet 4

17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

1 Cor 3

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Product Description

The impact of The Late Great Planet Earth cannot be overstated. The New York Times called it the “no. 1 non-fiction bestseller of the decade”. For Christians and non-Christians of the 1970s, Hal Lindsey’s blockbuster served as a wake-up call on events soon to come and events already unfolding - all leading up to the greatest event of all: the return of Jesus Christ. The years since have confirmed Lindsey’s insights into what biblical prophecy says about the times we live in. Whether you’re a church-going believer or someone who wouldn’t darken the door of a Christian institution, the Bible has much to tell you about the imminent future of this planet. In the midst of an out-of-control generation, it reveals a grand design that’s unfolding exactly according to plan. The rebirth of Israel. The threat of war in the Middle East. An increase in natural catastrophes. The revival of Satanism and witchcraft. These and other signs, foreseen by prophets from Moses to Jesus, portend the coming of an antichrist...of a war which will bring humanity to the brink of destruction...and of incredible deliverance for a desperate, dying planet.

Mat 12

35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
But he spake of the temple of his body.

Luke 19

41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;
46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

Hal Lindsey’s blockbuster served as a wake-up call...

Not in the way they think.

Visitation:

Hosea 9

7 The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
8 The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.
9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.

Root word: pakad

Pakad yifkod; pakad pakadti

Attent to, visit, muster, number, account... take care of [business]

it reveals a grand design that’s unfolding exactly according to plan

The three vines were three days
The three white/wicker baskets were three days

Same timeline. But what was in their wallet, so to speak? How were they conducting their business? With diligence, or just standing around idle with 2/3 empty baskets? The wages of sin is death. The baker must have gotten a fantastic deal on dead leaven. Pharaoh was not amused.

When you search the bible for 3 days , third day etc it is amazing how many things happened to Israel after 3 days :)

Yes, there is a certain theme of getting things done and taken care of. The delay is no delay, it's a matter of every detail needing to fall into proper place. Every t crossed; every i dotted. With the meticulous planning involved, three thousand years is an amazing timeline to behold. Man couldn't work it all out in millions.

Man put a man on the moon eight years after declaring his intent, so what level of detail must be involved in a scheme that takes *God* 3000?

That's some level of crazy absurd, from man's perspective. The stuff that's going to come out, you gotta laugh. Especially because these things are fulfilled over and over on multiple levels of meaning.

"Out of Egypt I have called my son" is going to be a classic. Israel, Joseph, Ephraim, the mother, the child... brought up out of "Egypt", aka "house of bondage" (jail), the place of the double siege or fortification (name meaning)... it goes on. They all work. This is why the prophecy peddlers are in for a world of hurt. They derive their wealth from selling outrageous theories founded upon nothing of substance. Skimpy ideas that fall flat the minute anyone goes in to see for himself.

How do they pull it off? By repeating little code mantras like "good scholars disagree." It's a psych trick to keep people from checking on their work. After all, if "good scholars disagree", then how can any Average Joe figure it out? Thus few will look, assuming the path to knowledge is through the prophecy experts' book$ and other "insightful" material$.

"And while they went to buy..."

It's prophecy in particular that's the irony. The teachers are teaching about the "End Times", but the joke's on them. They know not a thing. Yet they cash the checks to build houses on the sand.

It will get even more amusing when people realize that the "good scholars disagree" claim is an absurdity of absurdities, because the truth is so simple a child could understand.

In *Isaac* shall Abraham's seed be called. lol :)

Daniel basically said that we would not have all the answers until the time came.

You judge those bible prophecy teachers to harshly.
They might not know exactly who the enemy is yet BUT they are 100% right about teaching people to protect Israel and not with her enemies and they are 100% right to teach that we should be looking for his return .

BTW the third day has started . Two thousand years have already past and we are in the the third day . It said third day it did not say after the third day.
The time is soon , very soon

Wait 'til God gets a hold of them. Vengeance is the Lord's, because He's the Master of flipped over "fortunes". He'll take care of it.

Eh, so they toss out some kernels of truth...

Time is soon. On that we can certainly agree. :)

[[ Eh, so they toss out some kernels of truth...

The kernels of truth you are speaking of are the most important of all the kernels

He died to pay for your sins , believe and follow him ...repent , repent , repent.

Israel is really Israel and God has special plans for her.
He is coming soon so don’t do anything you don’t want to be caught doing .

Yep those are the most important things they teach.
The rest is icing on the cake so to speak.

(Daniel 12:8) And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?

(Daniel 12:9) And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

teachers are going to be judged differently than the rest of us but if those teachers are saved they are saved.
They teach wrong and are saved it is rewards they loose not salvation as they are not leading people to the pit but out of it.

Like Daniel said it is closed up until the end so no one knows exactly how everything will play out . It isn’t given to us so that we know the future , it is given to us so as we see these things take place we believe.

I don’t happen to think the antichrist is going to come out of Europe but I will still post stuff from pastors who do because those pastors and I agree on the most important things.

The sloppy teachers are wrong because they are are intrinsically sloppy. It's their character. Not mindful of the details, they justify their gross inattentiveness by saying things like, "As long as we agree on basic statements [of faith]... the rest is non-essential."

Good microscopes do not disagree. If they did, they'd be no good. They can see the same object at different magnifications, but they do not disagree, because reality/truth does not disagree with itself.

Why have a belief and doctrine in something that's not important (being "non-essential" as they say), but then see fit to sell it in the marketplace? Because by that craft they have their wealth. The cash floods in via all those "non-essentials". Kind of like any supermarket, really. There's produce, meat, and dairy - the real food - and then there's all the rest, the bulk of what is sold therein.

Actually these guys are worse, because a great deal of their "essentials" are junk food too.

Luke 4

23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

The kinsman redeemer shows up, only to be run out of town on a rail. Jews refuse him; the Christians too... suppose he'll have to make camp with his fellow outcasts. Well that is the pattern with this stuff.

Ok lets take Hall Lindsey for example and his book
The Late Grate Planet Earth he published in the 70’s

All the fundamental doctrines of faith are correct in that book.

The book however as you mentioned before is dated.
The book was about the 10 nation confederacy coming out of Europe and the EU.

well now the EU is more than 10 nations and it is being over run by Islam
So it does not appear that those nations are going to be what Daniel was talking about

(I personally do not think it is the EU because it does not encompass the entire area that the beginning of his vision did about the statue)

Ok so Hall Lindsey made some money selling that book
He spent it on preaching the Gospel
(I know an author personally , not Lindsey and he makes about .68 on each book so it really is not getting rich and he also spends it on getting out the Gospel)

Back to Hall Lindsey and his book.
That book went viral and it woke up an entire generation in this country of young people . The Calvary Chapel churches all spawned in this country from that movement caused by that book .

Calvary Chapel churches are still among the most biblical churches in this country and they are certainly about the most supportive of all the large congregations in this country (they are all mostly in large cities , I live out in the sticks so I attend a tiny church that is also very supportive of Israel but it is tiny and has no voice)

Not only did the Calvary Chapel movement spawn from the young people who were saved when that book went viral but so did most of the Jewish believers who were saved and spawned the Messianic movement in Israel.

So look at that ... The Late Great Planet Earth book was not perfect but look at how God used it

Like Daniel said it is sealed up until the end.
Prophecy is not given so you know exactly how the future is going to unfold it is given so that when it happens and you see it happening that you will believe.
