San Jose diocese says gay is ok [Catholic Caucus]

The diocese of San Jose is saying its LGBT ministry will not "elaborate" on Church teaching on "sexual morality, conscience, and personal sin," while claiming that gay people can't change their sexual orientation.

The document "Guidelines for the Catholic LGBT Ministry Council" bears the name of Bp. Patrick J. McGrath and is the guide by which Catholic parishes are to deal with LGBT people.

It maintains from the outset that the guidelines "do not presume any particular social or psychological analysis of sexuality in our society, except for a generally accepted premise that individuals do not choose and cannot change their sexual orientation but must understand it and integrate it into their life of faith and conscience."

It continues, "The guidelines accept, without elaborating, the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church on sexual morality, conscience, and personal sin."

In several locations it cautions against discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or violence against LGBT people, even accusing the Church of having made "homosexual orientation the basis for discrimination and rejection or isolation of individuals and groups."

The document then calls for ministers to "respond without prejudice or condition to all who turn to the Church for support, counsel, reconciliation, solace or sacraments," claiming that anybody who is baptized is entitled to the sacraments — without mention of whether a person is repentant of his sins. Instead, according to the guidelines, "the sacramental forum is above all a place of encounter," and gays should "foster the wholesome integration of their sexuality into their human and Christian growth."

The document makes no mention of Church teaching on homosexual acts "as acts of grave depravity," "intrinsically disordered," and "contrary to the natural law."

Bishop McGrath spoke recently in a press release, calling for the end of the death penalty in California, citing the Catechism of the Catholic Church as the basis of his rationale.

ChurchMilitant.com asked the diocese for comment as to why Bp. McGrath chooses to use the Catechism of the Catholic Church to argue against the death penalty while ignoring the Catechism in his diocese's LGBT ministry. As of press time, the diocese has not responded.

Perfect example of putting francismercy into use.

...while claiming that gay people can't change their sexual orientation.

Then where were all these fags 50-100 years ago?

Here’s what the catechism of the Catholic Church says about the basis of homosexuality:

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained.

Additionally, The catechism then continues:

Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.”142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

The catechism has an entire section of guidance toward chastity

Why not just call it sin and be done with it?

’ Under no circumstances can they [homosexual acts] be approved.’

I think this says it

Of course not for one who is always looking for fault with the Church.

Gay is no worse than adultery, theft, perjury, envy, or murder. Lots of people, especially democrats, are into those hobbies. If we were really not supposed to do those things, then the Bible would clearly tell us . . . Oh, wait . . .

For whatever reason, God didn’t destroy cities where those were common; Sodom & Gomorrah have a special distinction...

You may have a point there. However, gay doesn't make the top ten list, and the others that I listed do:

Leviticus 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."

Leviticus 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them."

Romans 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

I have given it a lot of thought without reaching a conclusion; I have trouble deciding how they compare. Except that I have (obviously) decided God's guidance is superior to my own desires, and I'm trying to avoid just about everything the Bible tells me to avoid. [I have trouble with the "keep it holy" part of remembering the Sabbath, and I often work regardless of the day of the week, but otherwise I am doing pretty well.]

God’s first command (”Be fruitful and multiply”) isn’t there either; doesn’t mean He didn’t say it. The fact that is doesn’t appear in the ten commandments may be an indication as to how much of an unthinkable abomination it is in God’s eyes...

“... a generally accepted premise that individuals do not choose and cannot change their sexual orientation but must understand it and integrate it into their life of faith and conscience.”

‘Generally accepted premise’? I don’t know ANYBODY who accepts that premise!

It continues, “The guidelines accept, without elaborating, the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church... “

The guidelines REJECT the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church!

“... anybody who is baptized is entitled to the sacraments — without mention of whether a person is repentant of his sins.”

This bonedhead is encouraging people to profane the Blessed Sacrament, by receiving it unworthily?!

And the MOST ridiculous statement :

“the sacramental forum is above all a place of encounter,” and gays should “foster the wholesome integration of their sexuality into their human and Christian growth.”
