Arrived last night in Berlin for first stop of World Youth Day Tour. I'm with about 150 attendees from Los Angeles Diocese that includes many smaller groups of teens, young adults and chaperones. Also includes four priests and a really great nun that has been to every WYD. Attended Mass this morning then toured Reischstag, Brandenburg Gate, Olympic Stadium and CheckPoint Charlie. Excellent learning experience for the teens and young adults. We will also be visiting Potsdam, Dresden, Prague and Auschwitz before getting into Krakow for start of formal WYD events. The Diocese wanted the youth to experience some history up close and personal which is a great idea. Also having Mass everyday, which this group really embraces. I have limited Internet but will post when able.
Ping? Please add others if you think it will be of interest. God bless
Too bad you’re about 30 years too late to get the complete effect so the young skulls full of mush could gain some understanding of why Communism sucks. Of course, with your current Pope, that may not be the message he wants to send to the group.
Actually, the tour guide today who is an older native Berliner gave a very forthright description of the evils of Communism. Since I was a USAF officer when the wall came down, they are also getting some of my experiences and opinions. Good reception from the youth so far. I have hope. Cheers!
LA Catholic watcher ping....
Praying you enjoy every moment.
PM me for advice. That’s my neck of the woods. Dresden is good for a couple hours and I would personally skip it to visit some of the river villages on the border between CZ and Germany. It is beautiful there. While you’re in Berlin pay attention to the bullet holes in everything. Just imagine what it was like when the Soviets, under the leadership of Obama’s Uncle, were invading. Krakow is nice for a few hours too. Get yourself some smoked string cheese. Good stuff. Watch out for the “diverse” crowd. Lots of African and Gypsies have invaded the town square. For the most part they get run off but beware.
It appears you have reason for hope with some reality injection from you and the tour guide. I went to Berlin twice in 1980 and the thing that can’t be re-created today is the striking difference observable right there at the Wall between East and West.
Cheers and FRegards!!

First hand reporting from World Youth Day, 2016!! The last time this happened was in 2005 when another freeper reported on Pope Benedict XVI's arrival at WYD in Germany.

Thank you for your hopeful sounding take on the young adults. I appreciate that encouragement very much.
God be with you, Snarky.
In Prague. For a lighthearted account of our journey so far, check out @instaspym. One of the youth ministers is posting some updates for the teens back home. Will try and post this evening.
Opening Mass and ceremonies are tonight in center of Krakow. We will be in a front section. Security tight but mood is very positive here. Poland is a great host. Freepers would feel at home here. :)
I was in Krakow last year, probably my favorite city in Europe.
WYD ping!!
Just heard news of murdered French priest. Lots of French youth here. God bless this priest’s soul. Will give update after Mass.
Stay safe my FRiend. Islamic terrorist murdered an elderly priest in Normandy while he was in his church yesterday.
Wilco and thanks. Our group was 50 feet from the sniper tower at Mass this evening. Poles are taking this serious.
