When were they widely available to the American public? I believe it was later than that.
From what I understand, the history of the condom goes back to Egyptian times around 900 BC....or before.
The”modern” condom would start with Goodyear,I imagine.As far as the “availability” history is concerned, I wouldn’t know as I have never bought one. “The Pill” was available in 1960.
