Aggie and director of Breakaway Ministries, Ben Stuart, will be stepping out of his role after 11 years of ministering to students at Texas A&M.
The announcement was made Tuesday night on Breakaway's website.
Stuart will be joining the Passion Movement by becoming a Leadership Resident at Passion City Church in Atlanta, GA. He then plans to start another Passion City Church in another city.
Breakaway started as a group of friends talking about the Bible in a small apartment back in 1989, but as it continued to grow, a bigger venue was needed.
It has since been held at many locations on the Texas A&M campus, like Olsen Field and Simpson Drill Field. Their regular spot is at Reed Arena, where thousands of Aggies routinely pack the seats every Tuesday night to hear the word of God.
"We get to touch thousand of student's lives, and then they go out around the world, so that makes College Station a pretty strategic place to do ministry, because we get to impact the globe right here from College Station, Texas." Stuart said.
His connection with Breakaway is not ending completely. He will now serve on the Breakaway Board of Directors, providing encouragement and counsel to the new director.
A new director will be named at a later date.
The guy at Passion Church has traditional SBC megachurch credentials - he went to Southwestern seminary and was previously at Andy Stanley’s North Point church (although neither North Point or Passion appear to be SBC). This guy is more of a straight up dispy - got his training at DTS. So the theology is likely to be traditional dispensational.
