This nonsense seems to persist on FR. Where exactly does this come from? When we are in Montreal, we go to the Divine Liturgy at an Antiochian Orthodox Church. When we are in Massachusetts, we go to an Antiochian Orthodox Church. You know the Church of Antioch, the place where St. Peter was the first bishop and where the term “Christians” was first applied to believers in Christ? Right? Their liturgy is conducted in Arabic. Do you know what they call “God” They call him “Allah”! It's the Arabic word for “God”, not Satan!
When the Quran refers to Allah, is Mohammed's concept of God different from ours? Of course, but then again, the “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” God of Jonathan Edwards is not the God of The Church either! There are more reasons to reject Mohammedanism than there is sand on a beach, but NONE OF THEM have to do with the word "Allah"!
That “allah” may be translated by some from Arabic as “god” is a linguistic argument having nothing to do with the point we were making. The “allah” of the Koran and hadiths is patently Satanic, teaches and commands hateful, profoundly evil and as you may see in the daily events, vile, murderous behavior. (If a particular church uses the word “allah” we’d hope this was merely a translational matter, which we realize does exist. What counts is who they’re really praying to, the one true biblical God of love — or the Islamic hate- monger Allah of the Koran and hadiths.). For clarity here in short typed English- language messages, we do NOT use “allah” interchangeably with “God” !!! The one true God of our biblical heritage in English- speaking countries is The God of love, not hate. The God that commands we choose life, not mass murder bombings of innocent human beings. The only word we have in English that even approaches the evil Islamic “Allah” deity is Satan. Churches should definitely avoid confusing the two. Churches know how to call on the true Lord, and should do so in unambiguous terms Thank you
Could it be because over time, the language that was used before the Arab conquest was Greek and over time it was Arabic that replaced the Greek?
