An appeals court ruled that the owners of a farm in New York State must pay a $13,000 fine for refusing to have a same-sex wedding on their property despite their religious objection to gay marriage.
The Third Judicial Department of the New York Supreme Court's Appellate Division ruled on Thursday that Cynthia and Robert Gifford engaged in unlawful discrimination when they refused to have a gay wedding performed on their property in 2012.
In their ruling the New York court concluded that the Gifford's farm, which is known as Liberty Ridge Farm, fit the legal definition of a place of public accommodation.
"It is undisputed that petitioners opened Liberty Ridge to the public as a venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions and offer several wedding-related event services in connection therewith," read the ruling.
"The fact that the wedding services occur on private property and pursuant to a written contract does not, as petitioners contend, remove Liberty Ridge's facilities from the reach of the Human Rights Law; the critical factor is that the facilities are made available to the public at large."

We started going down this road when the national government forced privately owned facilities not to “discriminate”. That was and is a direct violation of the right to freedom of association.
Vast swaths of tyrannical law have been passed through this doorway.
It is one thing to say government agencies cannot discriminate, it is another to say that private parties cannot do so. That is a direct attack on freedom. It should never have been allowed, and needs to be rolled back.
You make a great point. The gays love going to court since they can persuade only few to support them. Why don’t they go to Dearborn and force some muslims to perform the gay weddings. Then the libtard judges will have to choose sides.
It's like with the current MLK celebrations which the media trumpets loudly every year. Remember all the celebratory articles for Washington and Lincoln on president's day every year? Neither do I. In the future we will have Weird Sex Day (it won't be called that) by which every citizen will have to show enthusiastic support for sexual freaks. They won't be called that either. It is unConstitutional for “the State” to regulate religion. Marriage is a religious institution, therefore any law on it does not have to be followed.
