O come, thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heav'nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!

We sang "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" today at Mass - verses 5, 6 & 7. I have sung that hymn every Advent since about 1956. It never grows old.

O come, Thou Dayspring from on high
And cheer us by thy drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadow put to flight.

And from the song:
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice, Emmanuel,

A Blessed Christmas to you and yours, Salvation! Thank you for reminding me of these Antiphons - it has been a long while since I have heard them --- in Church.
Just sad - I remember so many Sundays at St. Mary's in Rockville, Maryland, in the late 50's when we would have Benediction.
"If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy." |
