If it’s “The darkness hovered over the spirit of the waters” it’s that which preceded God’s light...which, if the universe is cyclical is that which may have preceded the big bang and inflation. Though I suspect God’s ways are even more sophisticated than that....which might involve M-Theory, and a universe splitting off from another...or then again the end point of a black hole....
Though regardless, God was in the mix. Even if he let it just happen.
