These “conservative” Catholics are mostly the Catholics on this site. For them, as long as there isn’t a clear denial or contradiction of Church teaching, the document is “orthodox”. They usually respond to concerns with the ever-ignorant “See? Nothing’s changed!”
Both you and the author of the article are not allowing for a third contingent: those who are scandalized and outraged, agree with Cardinal Burke's assessment of the document (which is not good), and will NOT sing "Everything Is Awesome." I will do as Cardinal Burke says, "Stay faithful," and will keep fighting as he is.
Since I'm not in his position, the only thing I can do is pray. I continue to pray after the Synod is over for the conversion of the bad bishops (bishops who need to be converted completely back to orthodoxy, including Francis). I also pray the motto of Pope St. Pius X "To restore all things in Christ" (I created a chaplet to Pius X in the colors of his papal coat of arms praying his motto on 56 beads -- the number of years that he was a priest). I pray the Chaplet of the Holy Face which has this awesome line: Arise, O Lord, and let Thy enemies be scattered, and let them that hate Thee flee before Thy Face!
I want to say that I won't go down fighting, but we've been told the gates of hell will never prevail. So, I'm hoping prayer will help mitigate the effect that hell is trying to have on the Church instead. We need to see what's in the final document that Francis is supposed to release to see how bad it really is (or isn't, if he doesn't have the chutzpah to do the damage he can).
