I grew up a baptist. If I had a dollar for every baptist I knew that didn’t go to church but swore they were a good Christian and they were going to heaven no matter what in the world they did or how they lived their life, I would be a millionare. Every televangelist will say you don’t have to go to Church, just watch his program and that suffices for keeping the Lord’s day holy, your TV set is your church.
I can say the same about catholics I’ve known over time. Doesn’t matter what you do, just go confess to the priest, say a couple of hail Mary’s, do your penance and you’re good to go.
