Paul didn’t put down the other apostles. He made a case for the authenticity of his apostolic ministry by pointing out that he, too, had a ministry from God and that God shows no partiality.
Peter was acting hypocritically and needed confrontation because he was not acting in line with the truth of the gospel. (See: Galatians)

I did see Galatians, it is easy enough not to see a thing if it is not looked directly at but I think it is so plain that Pauls reasoning is to make Peter out to be lesser in order to make himself more.
