President Vladimir Putin, former KGB agent of a once-atheist nation, rebukes America, a once-Christian nation by saying that by forsaking traditional Christian values and putting same-sex marriage on the same level as traditional marriage with a man, woman, and children, the nation is forsaking God and believing in Satan and will be led into degradation and chaotic darkness.
At the height of the Cold War, it was common for American conservatives to label the officially atheist Soviet Union a “godless nation.”
More than two decades on, history has come full circle, as the Kremlin and its allies in the Russian Orthodox Church hurl the same allegation at the West.
“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a recent keynote speech. “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”
In his state of the nation address in mid-December, Mr. Putin also portrayed Russia as a staunch defender of “traditional values” against what he depicted as the morally bankrupt West. Social and religious conservatism, the former KGB officer insisted, is the only way to prevent the world from slipping into “chaotic darkness.”
As part of this defense of “Christian values,” Russia has adopted a law banning “homosexual propaganda” and another that makes it a criminal offense to “insult” the religious sensibilities of believers.
The law on religious sensibilities was adopted in the wake of a protest in Moscow’s largest cathedral by a female punk rock group against the Orthodox Church’s support of Mr. Putin. Kremlin-run television said the group’s “demonic” protest was funded by “some Americans.”

Actually we can’t. Our nation has a church on just about every street and most of them are busy being relevant, seeker-friendly, inclusive, reconciling, fun, comfortable. The coffee is first rate. We don’t judge (lest ye be judged—the most misused verse in the bible).
The pastors are more worried about their retirement plans than their flock. Threaten the tax exempt status and the church shuts up. The Big Giver is the new apostle. The new family gets to choose what is gospel and what gets discarded.
If the bulb burns out in the projector and people have to break out a hymnal, they complain, “I give all this money and they can’t even keep the projector working!” Yes, They. The Consumer Christian is paying for a service and he expects DisneyWorld perfection but without the lines.
But, the next few years will strip away the Christian facade from most Americans just as the 75 years of Soviet communism did in Russia. Some will stay the course. Most will slip deeper into their Moral Therapeutic Deism or will simply devolve into pure Humanism or Martial Arts Dojo Buddhism.
It was all forewarned, so it shouldn’t be a surprise.

Yes, in this case, it is hard to fault Putin for jealously guarding Russia from the American moral collapse that brought to the USA and the world, Barack Obama!
Actually I think he is sincere on this issue. He is not new mint on this one, unlike our political candidates who get “religion” only when they are running for office. Sadly, increasingly they don’t even feel the need for fake religion, let alone the real deal.
That’s just how much the world has changed.

He is totally wrong to support Iran. I can say, though, that his country has to trade with someone. If the U.S. and Europe shut Russia out, what are they to do? If NATO creeps closer and closer to Russia’s borders, what do we expect them to do for their own security. Some of what we blame them for, we have all but caused to happen.
I’ve said that the 21st century will belong to the nations that stop western leftism at their borders.
Once it consumes us, all they will have to do is kick the door in and the whole rotten shack will fall.
China and Russia are just sitting back and rubbing their hands.

I don’t know the gossip on that, but regardless. Truth is true regardless of the messenger.
If Charles Manson started shouting criticism toward ISIS the fact that he is a mass murdering hypocrite would not negate the fact that ISIS is evil. Now that is not a perfect example here because I would not equate the two things (homosexual, heterosexual), but you get the main point? Truth is truth whether you can smear the messenger as a hypocrite or not.

The United States is now an officially atheist nation. Russia is a Christian nation.
