That's not the purpose of FR and not the purpose of our Religion forum. Trashing religion is not debate.
Those who cannot live with this are welcome to post elsewhere.
I’ve had a lot of fondness for Reform folks here like GameCock or Geron. I always pictured Geron as a kind older man who looks like Geppeto that gently sips a cup of coffee while he browses Free Republic.
But you are right about RNMom, she was VILE. On that other forum she was the moderator of group called “Democrat Safe House. (Intended only for democrats) She was ruthless at removing posts that didnt follow her rules. As a board admin, she clearly knew how she was acting was not acceptable.
Some get suspended and you're still here...God does work in mysterious ways...
That kind of thing was almost entirely due to RCs turning FR into an information, advertising and apologetics service, which incited Prot reproffs, and finally one decided to post a series of counter articles in response. I remember the emails. Take away the papal promotions and you would see few Prot posts, while take away the Prots and you would open the flood gates for more RC propaganda. .
Unfortunately no! That kind of thing is entirely the result of the advent o moderators and Jim' total refusal to stop the religious bigotry be it toward Baptists , Catholics, Latter Day Saints or whichever flavor of the day you desire to cite.
You know, there’s sort of a hope that those involved in the political threads will also donate. They don’t look only to the religion forum for donations.
Does that mean you will not be posting the Luther cereal box cartoon any more? LOL! :-)
I agree with your two civil posters and would add lee n. Field and mrs don-o to it. One man’s opinion.
Nice thread hijack attempt: if one opposes the criminal actions of the Russians in Ukraine, then one must be anti-Orthodox. LOL
So your objection is to pro-Catholic threads?
It is a little off topic, but:
At the South Pole Station, when the outside temperature reaches minus 100-degrees F the winter-over crew cranks the sauna to 200 degrees.
Most of the crew start in the sauna then run outside (naked). They run around the ceremonial South Pole and return to the sauna.
The 300-degree difference gives you the name of the club.
I know because I was there. There's nothing like a witness to tell you the truth.
I hope not!!!
(As a Catholic, that was an embarrassment)
It’s only a back door if someone makes it such. The conversion story alone is not.
Deuteronomy 31:6
AMEN ; Sister !
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
I would define bashing as derogatory superficial statements or overreach that are not/cannot be not objectively supported by substantiation and reasoned argumentation. Such as Prots believe in self and self alone.
Amen to that, brother.
I suppose. But those RF threads are still a part of the site and my money would still be going to support what’s put on them. It’s odd enough that we shouldn’t entangle ourselves with the cares of the world, yet, here we are, fighting to keep our country. So, I’ve made the decision to be more careful where I send my money. Certainly, to my church and then to various Christian charities that further the Gospel. That’s about it.
You are correct sir. Time will tell.
If you mean what the UMC has become, I should hope so! The Wesleys are spinning like tops.
Which gets back to how we conduct these conversations. No amount of back and forth is going to result in a collective realization that one side or the other has been right or wrong. Individuals may have a flash of insight, a moment of grace by the power of God's Spirit, to see they have been wrong.
But until the end of the age we will have warring factions on all the important issues. What matters, I think, is how we handle that fact. For example, I could point out to you that your use of 1 Cor 11:29 is incorrect. Paul is there talking not about recognizing the substance of Christ hidden behind the appearance of the bread. He is talking about the selfish congregants not recognizing their weaker brothers and sisters as being the body of Christ. The whole midsection of 1 Corinthians is dedicated to expounding on us as the body of Christ.
But if I did so, would it change your view? That would be between you and God. I could hope for that, but I would be wrong to insist on it. It's not my call. There is no human substitute for the work of the Holy Spirit. So my best hope is to simply present the truth and leave the "insisting" to God alone.
What I'm asking in return is that both sides recognize that we can only take this so far, and the rest is up to God. I think it is a way we could agree to disagree on things without becoming agitated with each other. I think that would be a good thing.
Peace,
SR
