Aren't there a string of issues with building a new temple:

• Nobody knows the precise length of a cubit.
• There is no authority to make such a determination (Classical semikhah died around the time of Jerome).
• Disputes over who can serve as a Cohen (is there any way to verify that someone is actually a Levite, the records were destroyed with the temple). Apparently there are problems with going based on last name.
• Finally, due to the lack of a halakhic authority, there are going to be a very large number of observant Jews who will reject this. Less observant Jews are not going to go along with it since they don't believe another temple needs to be built.

I believe we have been in the “last days” for a little over 2,000 years...

and the building blocks have been living in the Temple...

Jesus told His disciples in the Olivet discourse that a third temple was the place the abomination that makes desolate will perform. There will be a third temple, you can count on it.
