Thank you! Funny story: my little Italian grandmother was allowed to stay in the country under my grandfather's citizenship. Then everything changed. She had to learn to write her name, and my Mom used to quiz her for her test. Why did things change? Because the War had broken out, and Italy was one of the bad guys: so my little Nani, less than 5 feet tall, who could barely speak English, was illiterate, had borne 16 children (only nine survived past infancy) was now going to be deported as an enemy alien if she didn't renounce her homeland and become a citizen in her own right!
She was very proud to be American- but to this day, the idea of that sweet little lady being an enemy alien tickles me!

I'm sorry! The reason I wrote that was to mention that my grandfather was a Democrat for the reasons I mentioned. So were all their kids. My Mom, #16, became Right to Life, later on, as did I, until the party got to small to nominate.
