I smile when Catholics tell us that they hear scripture at the mass..
They do of course .. 5 or 6 verses , taken out of context and then a 10 minute attempt to "explain it"
I have shared this before.. the day I decided I could no longer go to the Catholic church ...the priest read from Mat 13, on the sower and the seed.. such a beautiful passage on the work of God in salvation..
The priest then went on to use it to encourage parents their attempt to teach table manners was not wasted .. just sow the seeds..
I wanted to run out of that church as he spoke.. he was/is so lost ..the gospel is foolishness to him
Or not. The last thing I remember about a RCC that I was attending (regularly... because expiation seemed bad, and I was afraid of it )... but I digress.
The last thing I remember was a series of "Homilies" (whatever.) that focused on how much money the local church needed. It didn't have a thing to do with the PRESCRIBED "readings". It had to do with business.
Here's one: At a Catholic funeral, the priest went on and on about something unrelated to the dead one (dead in every way, but I'm not the judge). Then he talked about HIS OWN MOTHER's (not Mary) funeral.
He said, "She always loved the hymn 'Amazing Grace' - but I refused let the congregation sing the verse that says, '...saved a wretch like me!'"
He went on, "My mother was no 'wretch'!"
The gospel is pretty much foolishness to all followers of works based religions. I know it was to me. I only stayed with the Catholic Church for about a month, after being saved. I couldn't take it anymore, so I beat feet to the door, and never looked back.
...”I smile when Catholics tell us that they hear scripture at the mass”....
I use to hear my ‘school teachers’ too....but I would have failed ad I not done done the homework and study what I heard.
So too with those who are spoon fed ‘morsels’ once a week...they’re growth will be stunted and they’re faith weak as a body deprived of appropriate nourishment.
