Who cares what some ding bat liberal professor thinks. The Catholic Church will NEVER accept gay unions because the term is an oxymoron.
A valid marriage has two purposes - It is unitive and procreative. And a homosexual relationship is neither. This has been Church teaching before Christ, and it is not going to change just because some loony professor, or even a few reprobate bishops or cardinals think it should.
