Just to be clear - the position of the National President of the BSA is a volunteer position. So are the officers (~27) of the National BSA Executive Committee. They pay their own freight to meetings and are expected to secure major donations to the BSA National Office in Irving, TX. In return, they, the corporate leaders of the Fortune 500, get to call the tune that the BSA professionals (including the Chief Scout Executive) must dance too.

I would guess that having his position on ones resume opens all kinds of money doors off the books as well as on, jack up his speaking fees, get him larger book bonuses and larger appearance fees for television. Because every similar ‘volunteer’ position is taken for just that reason.
