Rome Celebrates First Gay Civil Unions

Twenty couples seal their commitment at City Hall

(ANSA) - Rome, May 21 - Rome's brand-new civil unions registry kicked off Thursday as 20 couples - 14 of them gay and six straight - sealed their commitment to one another at City Hall. Actors Michela Andreozzi and Massimiliano Vado were first in line to celebrate their civil union on what center-left Mayor Ignazio Marino has called Celebration Day.

Another couple tying the knot are Paola and Stella, both volunteers at Rome's Gay Center who have been together for 31 years.

"Today a just, serene, peaceful and egalitarian Italy takes center stage," said grooms Mauro Cioffari and Davide Conte. "Long live love, long live liberty".

The proceedings were briefly marred by a lone protester, who insulted the mayor and shouted "You are ruining Italy" at participants before leaving of his own accord.

Rome's city council in January approved the establishment of a special register for civil unions. The controversial move was backed by Marino, who hails from the ruling Democratic Party (PD), his centre-left coalition and the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S).

The New Center Right (NCD), Silvio Berlusconi's center-right Forza Italia (FI) and the rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI) parties voted against. The Rome mayor, who has long favored the recognition of civil unions, was on hand for the vote that he called a "historic milestone".

Nothing to celebrate.

More like, mourn.

The European Parliament in March called on EU member states that have not already done so, to recognise civil unions and same-sex marriage as a civil and human right.

Pope Paul VI promoted the UN as "the world's greatest hope". And Pope John Paul II promoted the EU.

The former has been beatified and the latter canonized.

It’s not the first same-sex civil union in Rome; they had these 2000 years ago, in the time of Nero (in fact, Nero had one of those). But they stopped after some fishermen started preaching about something called The Way.

I guess the modern Romans have forgotten what those fishermen told them...

“The proceedings were briefly marred by a lone protester, who insulted the mayor and shouted “You are ruining Italy” at participants before leaving of his own accord.”

Always pay attention to the lone protestor. They provide a “witness against” and will stand up at the Judgment to condemn the mayor and these happy grooms.

Most of Europe is busy forgetting what the Fishermen, and those who followed after them, told them.

As are we. Vengeance is coming.

I await Francis’ strong and clear condemnation of this. Someone please ping me if it happens.

I never believed that the end of the world would happen in my lifetime but now I’m not so sure.

The end of the world won't happen because there has to be at least 1,007 more years (7 years tribulation + Millennial Kingdom on earth). But the end of the Age (Age of Grace) definitely could happen.

Gay ‘marriage’ doesn’t elevate any relationship.

It simply eliminates the special recognition of a reltationship that binds a man to a woman and any children resulting of the relationships.

Modern marriage, usually made sterile through contraception, often temporary through divorce is largly about property... and if we’re being honest, is just a different form of corporation.

This is just a symptom of the larger, cultural trend towards slow suicide.
