One thing about the study of history, if no other: You cannot judge past events by modern standards. Judging historical individuals by modern religious, ethical or legal standards leads to revisionism. A sin that is even greater than plagerism in academic circles. Pius V was a strong bulwark of the Catholic Faith who led a saintly life founded on heroic Christian morality.

I don't disagree. Some things are by their nature evil however and there are Catholics on this board that decry others from the same timeframe for language which at the time was very common, but as lensed through today's standards, is outrageous.
