I would not expect a true Puritan (a term I use with respect concerning my ancestors) to use a phrase from the vast wasteland of secular-immorality-promoting television.

I'm laughing at the association of the phrase solely with a television show. I take it you yourself have spent a great deal of time in that vast wasteland, to have made that exclusive association?
