If you’re talking about the sacraments, they are gifts from God and all about grace.
Maybe because of the “consolation” mentioned by deSales in a quote in the article?
By the way, the Catechism is your friend. The Church teaches the Sacraments are “ordinarily” necessary, not absolutely necessary for Salvation.

I have a question, and if anybody would offer an answer, I’d appreciate it... I watched “The King’s Speech” (a wonderful film) and it set me to wondering. If the King or Queen is the Head of the Anglican Church, and Henry VIII declared his own divorce, why couldn’t Edward change things so he could marry Wallis Simpson without having to abdicate? I couldn’t figure that out. Thank you!
