My new book, The Protestant's Dilemma, shows in a myriad of ways why Protestantism is implausible. We sifted through many arguments to boil the book down to the most essential. A few chapters didn't make the cut but are still good enough to share. Here's one of them.
If Protestantism is true,
There's no way to know whether you're assenting to divine revelation or to mere human opinion about divine revelation.
Protestants and Catholics both believe that God has revealed himself to man over the course of human history, culminating in his ultimate self-revelation in Jesus Christ. But whereas Catholics believe that Christ founded a visible Churchwhich subsists in the Catholic Churchand has protected its doctrines from error, Protestants reject the notion of ecclesial infallibility, maintaining that no person, church, or denomination has been preserved from error in its teachings. Which means that anyone could be wrong, and no person or institution can be trusted with speaking the truth of divine revelation without error.
Universal Fallibility
No one is infallible. If Protestantism has a universal belief, this is it. Luther pioneered this idea when he asserted that popes and Church councils had erred. If they had erred, it meant God had not guided them into all truth; instead, he allowed them to fall into error and, worse, to proclaim error as truth.
And so the most a Protestant can do is tentatively assent to doctrinal statements made by his church, pastor, or denomination, since those statements, being fallible, could be substantively changed at some time in the future. We see this all the time in Protestantism, most commonly when a Protestant leaves one church for another due to doctrinal disagreement, especially after his church changed its position on an issue he considered important.
Consider the question of same-sex marriage. Until quite recently, all Protestant denominations taught this was a contradiction in terms. But now many have modified or even completely reversed this doctrine. Those Protestants who accept this new teaching believe that the old one was wrongan erroneous human opinion that became enshrined in their churchs statement of faith. They can do this confidently, knowing that none of their fellow church members can plausibly claim that it contradicts an irreformable dogma that was infallibly revealed by God.
Ultimately, then, a Protestant (who remains Protestant) studies the relevant sourcesScripture, history, the writings of authoritative figures in his traditionand chooses the Protestant denomination that most aligns with his judgment. But then, they say, Catholics do the same thing: studying the sources and then choosing the Catholic Church based on their own judgment. So they see no difference in this regard.
Because Catholicism is true,
Christians can know divine revelation, as distinct from mere human opinion, because God protects it from authoritatively teaching anything that is false.
How is the Catholics judgment different from a Protestant's, if at all? The difference lies in the conclusion, or finishing point, of the inquiry they make. Whereas the Protestant can ultimately submit only to his own judgment, which he knows to be fallible, the Catholic can confidently render total assent to the proclamations of the visible Church that Christ established and guides, submitting his judgments to its judgments as to Christ's.
And so a Catholic can know divine revelation, as distinct from human opinion, by looking to the Church, which speaks with Christs voice and cannot lie. For a Protestant, only the Bible itself contains Gods infallibly inspired words, so he desires to assent to that. But since the Bible must be interpreted by someone, the closest he can come to assenting to biblical teaching is assenting to his own fallible interpretation of it. And assenting to yourself is no assent at all.
The Protestants Dilemma
If Protestantism is true, all are fallible. So the Protestant must rely on his own judgment above that of his church. And the orthodoxy of the church itself is judged against his interpretation of the Bible. Thus is becomes impossible to distinguish between what divine revelation actually is versus what a fallible human being thinks it is. This fact makes the Catholic Church, philosophically speaking, preferable to Protestantism, since Gods truth can be knownand known with certainty.
To the contrary. The Catholic Church operates within the parameters set by Christ Himself. He established a visible structure and chain of command. The Church He founded has continued to teach, govern, sanctify and save since He deployed His Apostles to commence the mission.
"Behold this second epistle I write to you, my dearly beloved, in which I stir up by way of admonition your sincere mind: [2] That you may be mindful of those words which I told you before from the holy prophets, and of your apostles..."

"We know the Apostles were bishops, because they could make laws for the Church, consecrate other bishops, ordain priests, and give Confirmation -- powers that belong only to bishops, and are still exercised by them."

It struck me as I looked at those pictures that the Catholic Church “inclusive” attitude didn’t just start with this pope Francis. Yet Catholics would extol the virtues of previous popes. Catholics had better wake up to what that church is and does.
Jesus has been warning them about their practices for years, until the reformation when he took the believers out from the den of iniquity it had become.
And even then rather than yield to Gods promptings, and the clear evidence before them rather than turn to Him, they orchestrated a counter revolution.
That battle we see continuing to this day...as evidenced on these threads. And as then even when the evidence is given very clearly they rebel still, hiding under the cloak of a leadership that is so corrupt it that will indeed drag them to an end they will not be able to return from.

That may be so but a Protestant does not a Christian make any more than does a Catholic indicate someone is a Christian. A true Christian does NOT rely on history, tradition, or the writings of authoritative figures without verifying with scripture if those teachings are true.
Well, you fall right in there with the “can’t we all just get along” crowd and your popes kissing the Koran and saluting Hitler. On big happy “one world religion” being fashioned!
Well, the Holy Spirit surely didn’t inspire the likes of Pelosi, Biden, and the likes of them or the apostates who coddle to them.
“I don’t care if there’s a billion of you. You’re in a cult.”
So he’s only the vicar of Christ sometimes but no all the time?
There’s also some protestants who talk of the pope as the anti christ. But I don’t think that talk is productive.
What has been killing both the catholic and protestant churches for two centuries and more has been the arian heresy.
But that doesn’t seem to get much press.
It was interesting to me that the writer of the article addressed following some organization or religion. Not once did he mention following Christ alone.

Caucus can be abused in different, complimentary, ways.
Caucus is abused when non-caucus persons chime in, and also when caucus members discuss the views of those forbidden by the "CAUCUS" designation from replying.

Hardly what with the immorality and corruption that exists and has existed over the centuries within the ranks of the clergy of Catholicism.
Qualifications for elder and deacon.
1 Corinthians 5:1-13 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father's wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.
For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

That precludes taking communion with someone like that.

And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

1 Timothy 3:1-13 The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.
Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 5:19-24 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
The Church He founded has continued to teach, govern, sanctify and save since He deployed His Apostles to commence the mission.
Wrong. The church sanctifies no one. That's the work of the Holy Spirit.
1 Peter 1:1-2 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
Right. That includes Mary.

Please show from your James chapter two where it says that the works had anything to do with salvation. Surely you aren’t trying to imply that simply because James said that you could see his faith that saved him by his works meant the the works had anything to do with his salvation did you?
