The context and timing of all of John’s visions are to occur “soon” and are “at hand” including this one. So says God to John in the 1st and 22nd chapters of Revelation.

If these visions and events were “at hand” for John’s audience, the 7 churches in Asia Minor, they cannot be “at hand” to those living 2,000 years later.
