We know that the three Magi saw the star. If THEY saw it, most of the rest of the human race saw it too.
That's a nice thought! I wonder what it looked like, and what people from far away must have thought! I guess my Mom was trying to tell me that those in the comfort of the inns were eating and drinking, maybe renewing old friendships, but too busy to pay attention. It was to the poor and uneducated shepherds, considered lowly, and smelling of sheep, outside in the cold, that the angels appeared. It was the Wise Men who saw it and travelled all that way to find a king, and found the little One in the greatest poverty and humility. She even used to move our Magi in the Nativity- with their backs to the East- as we sang "We Three Kings"- them we'd inscribe their initials and the year over the door and pray that they would bless us and help us "find" Jesus in our lives. My Mom: 4'10" of wisdom and love! I miss her so!
