When the diocese came around here offering to take over the parish owned and run grade school and high school, the parents filled the auditorium and ran them out on a rail. The parish has a hefty endowment for the schools and didn’t want it diluted in an attempt to save other schools with the result of all the schools failing.
An independent audit of PFL would probably be worthwhile but diocese oversight is not always an advantage.
True. PFL is a 501(c)-3, and AFAIK, they haven't run afoul of the IRS.
The timing of the publication of what essentially amounts to an inter-office communique (in the midst of the year-end "season of giving") is interesting. If a democrat toady wanted to ingratiate himself to Schumer and his ilk, undermining the democrats' arch-enemy PFL with unsubstantiated accusations of financial mismanagement through the publication of such a letter would be a cheap yet effective tactic. It would be interesting to find out who Dolan had in mind to serve on the new, "independent" board he envisioned.
