Yes, like this. It is a statement of official Catholic doctrine that can be discussed.

I have to admit that I was taken aback when I first saw this paragraph. My first thought was, yeah, try telling a Muslim who is ready to lop your head off, “Hey, we adore the same God of Abraham, and he includes both of us in his plan of salvation.” Kerplop.

Then I came across 1058, The Church prays that no one should be lost: “Lord, let me never be parted from you.” If it is true that no one can save himself, it is also true that God “desires all men to be saved” (1 Tim 2:4), and that for him “all things are possible” (Mt 19:26).

This is one of those things I leave for God to figure out.

That's a long way from proclaiming they both serve the same god.

It's a proclamation of the Catholic Church. If they can't even discern that Muslims do NOT serve the same God of scripture how on earth would anyone trust them to discern anything else?
