I worked in Lowes plumbing department once. Two SA workers came in and asked help in putting a shower together. It was purely functional and had to be big enough for two people help clean up a filthy derelict. Thy were on a very limited budget. I kicked in $20 of my own. It gave me a lot of respect for these people who get paid little to do some very thankless unglamorous jobs.

“What Does the Salvation Army Teach About the Sacraments?”

It teaches what most actual Christian denominatons teach about the “Sacraments”, i.e., there are no sacraments in Christian theology. Cults make up extra-biblical stuff such as “sacraments”; Christians do not. There are no sacraments in the Bible. More made-up stuff.

Not necessarily Christmas-based giving but a good charity that is in the middle of everything--Voice of the Martyrs. I know my money is well spent with them.

How disgusting...’Don’t give to poor, needy people at Christmas time’ in the name of Jesus...What a message...Who’s the unGodly moron that made this appeal???

This is vile and disgusting.

Our local Salvation Army collects turkeys to distribute to families on Christmas. How does that have anything to do with contraception or abortion? I've sent men just out of prison to their storefront for a warm coat.

That red kettle just bugs people because it's money. Very telling where priorities are.

Remove me from your ping list.

If you support the Salvation Army, try to drop a token coin into every bucket that you see.

While the money adds up, by sharing it among all the buckets you are helping the morale of each of the individuals who are doing this difficult task, every person that nods and drops a coin, helps the bell ringer get past all the averted eyes and complaints that might make them wonder if they couldn’t be doing something else that day.

It is positive reinforcement for the poor slug doing the hard work and standing on concrete, in front of the public.

The Salvation Army is THE only charity that actually helped me when I was trying to recover from active addiction.

Frankly, as a Christian organization, I would question the premise they are in any way pro-abortion, but lets say you could make the case they are.

I wouldn't care. The help they rendered beats any weak assertion they are pro-abortion.

I took a look at the article. My suspicions are correct. Weak.

SALVATION ARMY ALL THE WAY!

The salvation army once gave the William Booth award to cardinal Law, which had the former holy man turning over in his grave (f you think he preached easy believism see here ) But you also have Catholic charities:

Catholic Relief Services gave over $13 million to pro-abortion group in 2012

How Catholic Charities Lost Its Soul

Catholic Charities—and the same could be said about the Association of Jewish Family and Children's Agencies or the Lutheran Services in America—has become over the last three decades an arm of the welfare state, with 65 percent of its $2.3 billion annual budget now flowing from government sources and little that is explicitly religious, or even values-laden, about most of the services its 1,400 member agencies and 46,000 paid employees provide. http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=7587

Salvation Army “exceptions” on murdering the unborn is the view of the “conservative” Republican National Party.
All RINOs hold this view. A real pro-life position on no abortion for any reason is for real pro-lifers who aren’t scared that democrats will label them EXTREME right-wingers that hate women. Santorum, Huckabee, and Rick Perry hold this view, and they could less what the murderers think. There are others, but I can’t think of them right now.

You can give to organizations you believe in, I don` think Jesus would be against that, but he was not talking about organizations he was talking about you helping some one if they needed help.

Wow, did THAT accumulate responses quickly! OK let's take a look at the forest, without picking the trees apart:

The article stated some of the tenets of both faiths. Information is empowering. The Salvation Army does not hide its beliefs, and their good works are all to their credit according to their teachings and conscience.

The thrust here for Catholics is that charity can begin at home: or at least where we can keep to our beliefs without danger of mortal sin, however well-intentioned.

In fine, it is worth noting that the Little Sisters of the Poor, are presently engaged in a legal battle to maintain their pro-life stance against the new mandates in the healthcare laws.

Those interested may check ALL's website, linked in the article, or check where you can help within your parishes. Sometimes the needy are right next to you in the pews and you may not realize it!

Those who don't agree, give as you see fit.

Those who are here simply to antagonize, why?

Whatever you believe, may God bless you!
