You’d be surprised at the atheists (Richard Dawkins included) that point to the Amalekites when they want to talk about why they couldn’t ever possibly believe in a horrible, indecent God that would order genocide.
Of course, they never read any further than that, and refuse to look at the context of a multigenerational war started by the Amalekites who attacked the rearmost section of the Hebrews’ train. The section that contained the slowest of the groups - the elderly and families with small children.
