The evidence of the Bard's Catholicism is thin, but real, and more references than inclusion of Purgatory in Hamlet. Still, the evidence for his political correctness in Jacobian England is stronger, including a real possibility of having had a part in the excellent King James translation.

If there were two of him, one a quiet Royal the other his flamboyant actor front, and more evidence of that theory were to come to light, then this avenue of investigation might be worthwhile. Until then, I'm thankful for the works and for the unnamed who squirrelled these folios away, one day in Calais.

If there were two of him

Possibly. He, after all survived the purges and his works survived. That would not be possible if he had been openly Catholic at the time.
