My relatives on Long Island, NY are Catholic and most of them vote Republican.
I have a first cousin on Long Island who is an elementary school teacher, Catholic, and votes GOP. She and her husband despise Obama. Her late father, my uncle, was a Republican party official in New York years ago.
I haven’t been to mass in years, and it’s the left-wing drift of the church that’s responsible.
A shame to let a bunch of leftists deprive you of Holy Mass (and in the process deprive the Lord of your presence). There are still orthodox priests and congregations to be found (although admittedly it may be necessary to drive long distances from home to access them).
"Every Holy Mass, heard with devotion, produces in our souls marvelous effects, abundant spiritual and material graces which we, ourselves, do not know...It is easier for the earth to exist without the sun than without the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!" ~ St. Padre Pio
I am a Long Island Catholic too, july, and, like your family, we have NEVER voted Dem.
In fact, almost all the Catholics I know - especially those of us who attend the TLM - are conservative in both nature and voting patterns.
Of course, there are MANY here on Long Island that are not, but among the weekly Mass-goers? Almost all GOP.
BTW, tell your family to come join us at St. Matthew’s parish in Dix Hills for the TLM! It’s WONDERFUL!
Regards,
PS: There are a bunch of parishes on Long Island that CONSTANTLY push the illegal-alien nonsense, but I think the only ones who listen are the illegal aliens themselves. Everybody else gets kind of ticked off about it. (Our parish does NOT do this.)
july4, I join BlatherNaut and VermiciousKnid in asking you to please come back to Mass. For years I thought it was my duty to try to purge my parish of liturgical abuses and leftism but then I decided I’ll just go to Mass where I can in peace.
