Do you think that your characterization of these Church leaders as "a bunch of left wing weenies" might violate Canon 212?: In accord with the knowledge, competence, and preeminence that they possess, [the laity] have the right and even at times a duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters that pertain to the good of the Church, and they have a right to make their opinion known to the other Christian faithful with due regard for the integrity of faith and morals and reverence toward their pastors, and with consideration for the common good and the dignity of persons. JPII's thoughts on the matter: "Unity with the bishop is the essential and indispensable attitude of the faithful Catholic, for one cannot claim to be on the pope’s side without also standing by the bishops in communion with him. Nor can one claim to be with the bishop without standing by the head of the college."

Pope JP II fought against the "Culture of Death" in word and deed until his dying breath. Can anyone claim that bishops who lend their support to a political party which promotes death and perversion as a core tenet remain in communion with Christ and His Church?

Regarding Canon 212, it can be reasonably argued that the common good and the dignity of persons (and most importantly, the right to life) may be more effectively defended with bluntness than with obsequiousness. If a pastor molests an altar boy, he is a pervert, and if a pastor supports socialists, he is a socialist (aka left wing weenie). Truth is truth.

” standing by the bishops in communion with him”

do we stand with the bishops by opposing the bishops?

http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/upload/forming-consciences-for-faithful-citizenship.pdf

should we stand with that document ... or with the press releases of this month? is the USCCB standing with the USCCB? Is the USCCB in communion with him?

This Bishop is chairman of the Committee on Migration. He speaks for the committee, not for the Church in the United States. He has no authority outside his own diocese.

july4, I join BlatherNaut and VermiciousKnid in asking you to please come back to Mass. For years I thought it was my duty to try to purge my parish of liturgical abuses and leftism but then I decided I’ll just go to Mass where I can in peace.

The problem is that bishops are opposing bishops. The bishops who uphold the teachings of Christ handed on to us through the Apostles (e.g. various African bishops, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, Cardinal Raymond Burke, etc.) have been under attack from those who want to ignore His teachings.

that’s what I meant. What I wrote was confusing.

The Bishops released statements previously. Do we stand with those?

Now they release opposing statements ... if we stick with the original and stand with the bishops ... we oppose those Bishops if we stand with Elizondo today. He speaks for himself and that committee and his diocese. Nothing more.

Add Cardinal Kasper and bishops who agree with him to the mix, and we have even more confusion and division. Should German Catholics who want to be faithful stand with their own bishops who are pushing for sacrilegious Communion and who publish porno, or with the African bishops? Should Americans stand with Cardinal Wuerl, who removed a priest for refusing Holy Communion to a lesbian Buddhist, or should we stand with Cardinal Raymond Burke who refuses to concede to those who demand the right to sacrilegious Communion? Should we in the U.S. whose bishops operate chanceries that serve as adjuncts to the democrat party stand with the uncompromisingly pro-life African bishops or with our own, even if they undermine the sanctity of life through their words and actions?

The logical choice in this period of chaos is to "stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle" and those bishops throughout the world who teach and defend the Faith as it has always been taught.
