Just being honest with myself, if I were homeless in Rome, I'd gravitate towards the Vatican, too. Just because I somehow think it would be safer.

What I don't understand is the man quoted in the article as being upset that the priests don't find him work.

I ask the following from ignorance... not being Catholic... and knowing little of Catholic practices in Europe... would a person looking for work have a reason to believe that a passing priest is the man who could/should make that happen?

I don’t think priests have a role in that either way. I simply think that in Europe, like anywhere else there are givers and takers. This guy probably has hundreds of reasons why he can’t be bothered to work for a living, instead of just the ones quoted. Didja notice he was waiting for the job to come to him?
