Yeah, I agree. When I go to church and they do that hand shaking business, people will put on a fake smile and either shake your hand or turn the other way. It’s always awkward and I’d wish they’d just skip it.

I dunno about other denominations, but in the Anglican church when folks greet you and shake your hand after common prayer, it is a sign of forgiveness. A symbol of our Lord’s command to forgive and wish peace upon that person.
You will shake someones hand in the Anglican church and will often hear someone say to you, “Peace be with you or God’s peace”.
I visited a church and never returned, because during the dreaded “greet your neighbor” time this woman insisted on hugging me, even though I asked her not to. She said, “oh you need a hug” and did it anyway. It was creepy and couldn’t wait to get out of there. Please, people, when someone tells you they have issues with close physical contact with strangers, respect that.
