Did not Paul also say, “work out your salvation in fear and trembeling?”

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Your disadvantage and error obviously comes from not getting your scripture from the bible but from some Catholic publication...Had you studied the scriptures a little you'd get a little bit of understanding on this verse...

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

so what is the fear and trembling???

Paul is preaching to Christians, new converts, and those who have not yet trusted in Jesus Christ...

Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

These are real babes in Christ and some not in Christ at all...they as yet know nothing...

Rom 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Bearing in mind that those who have called on Jesus Christ have been 'sealed' in the Spirit, and have the down payment of their salvation already paid, Paul is speaking of that first day in heaven...When salvation AND bodily redemption are complete...

Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Rom 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Paul is teaching that Jesus may come at any minute...Paul is telling these people the time is very short and to fear that Jesus may come back or they may die before they have had time to trust in Jesus if they dilly dally...Paul says 'put on Christ, now'...

That's the fear and trembling...That's the working out your own salvation...Because it's up to YOU how long you want to prolong this...

Now we can put it together with the verse you left out...

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

If it is God within you that does the works, You working for your own salvation makes no sense...The working out your your own salvation is getting your mind and heart in the right place with God so you become saved as soon as possible and don't have to fear damnation...

Yes, right here is the rest of the passage:

So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:12,13)

NOTE...it says "work OUT", not "work FOR". Can you appreciate the difference?
