God HAS surprised me on several occasions. It doesn't mean I believe He is changeable, just that when I have prayed about something important to me and surrendered to His will, I see how in time He works all things for my good - sometimes in surprising ways. I don't claim to read Pope Francis' mind, but this might be what he was talking about.

I find it curious that some Roman Catholics are so vociferously against everything he says but will condemn "Protestants" for not being in submission to the Pope of Rome and head shepherd of ALL Christendom. It's no surprise that the Reformation went into full swing around the same time of some of the worst Popes in Roman Catholicism's history.

God would not allow the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ to be stifled....hence the Reformation. (my personal belief)
