I rather like the side-glance sketch of Savonarola. The trend toward highlighting realism, where it can be found, of history's notables adds something of an anchor to teaching and and to the value students can place on the subject. History is sore neglected in our time, and unnecessarily so. Another victim of the post-modern triumph of the dead while men who mapped out the future of experimentalism, "progressive education" in particular, as the only philosophy of education to receive a license to teach.
