Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

When I was in my first year of art college, I was assigned a project that was supposed to be a form of "Primitive" or "Folk" Art. I chose Ukrainian Embroidery and not only did I do research deep in the stacks of the Boston Public Library, I also interviewed some elderly Ukrainian women in my community, and made an entire traditional dance outfit that was hand-embroidered from top to bottom. The professor gave me a "C", saying that Embroidery was NOT "Art", but was a "craft". I countered that he was a sexist and that he diminished the Art of Embroidery solely because it was an Art traditionally attributed to WOMEN. At that, he promptly improved my grade! LOL.

Embroidery, though now often done by machine, is an incredibly evocative and important art. Sports Teams, Motorcycle Clubs, and even the Military record their achievements and identification with embroidered patches.

Most interesting, though, is the resurgence of the very embroidery that caused my confrontation with the professor back in 1970. In the Ukraine, mass demonstrations and parades have been organized to protest Russian incursions into the country. Not only are there lots of flags being waved, but the marchers have taken to wearing their native embroidered shirts to express their National Identity and Pride. It has become so profuse that these are called "Embroidery Parades".

Certainly, this Bible Job has NOT become "Obsolete". I feel vindicated! (Although I was kind of a brat in 1970!) LOL!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen
