Why is Irish or Irish Catholic Pride more acceptable than other people’s pride to a Holy Heavenly Father?
Doesn’t scripture say pride comes before destruction?
Gay pride, black pride, Irish pride, ‘fill in any ethnic or national’ pride, sports team pride, man made holy day pride...
The let’s have a parade crowd to celebrate ‘us’ is not a bible reading or living group...
YES! I was going to respond to the disdain of “drunkenness” and so on with the endless boasting and bragging about Irishness. (BTW, IIUC, real Irish do not “celebrate” being Irish for this - they worship at Mass for St. Patrick. Neither do they eat corn beef/cabbage.)
I don’t mind if people want to have parades, festivals for their nationality. But it should be EVERYONE, not just Irish, who have festivals that are celebrated nationally and noted on every damn newscast. Who else gets to blow-hard chest-beat all the time about a certain “holiday” in terms of how great they are, how everyone wants to be, how we should kiss them, etc, with big parades everywhere and national coverage including the simple recognition of “Irish Day”? No one. (Please don’t mention “Columbus Day” because in my world, I never heard of Italians celebrating it as if it is theirs until a few years ago and I’m 45. Certainly never appeared even on local TV or national.)
No, even without queers “St. Patrick’s Day” is really nothing more than a “see we really are great, believe me!” day for 1 single set of people.
But yes, if you’re going to keep it, please eliminate the queers from it.
