What a beautiful salutation to call upon Our Most Blessed Mother! One may be tempted to think that these words are an exaggerated expression of piety as they apply also to her Son, whose sacrifice on the Cross obtained our Redemption.
However, Gods Redemption began not with an imposition upon an unworthy humanity, but through the free gift of a womans fiat that first opened the door of heaven to bring down the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity. This is why St. Bernard, and the Church throughout the ages echoing his words, refers to Mary as the cause of our salvation, for she is the instrument through which God entrusted His plan of Redemption to enter into the world just as it was through Eve that Original Sin passed on from Adam to every generation.
From the moment of her fiat to the Angel, Mary was inseparably bound up in Gods work of Redemption, both in its accomplishment and in the distribution of its merits. And she exercises these roles as the New Eve, acting as both Spouse of the New Adam (Jesus Christ) and His Mother. Her motherhood extends over both His earthly life, and in His Mystical Life prolonged in the Church as Jesus made crystal clear on Calvary.

"acting as both Spouse of the New Adam (Jesus Christ) and His Mother."
Seriously...So Mary is both wife and mother to the Savior ?
Seriously...???
Luther recovered salvation by faith, apart from works. That is more than enough for one man.
Remember, he was a roman priest. You can’t unlearn everything in a single life. Obviously, he was totally wrong about Mary - but we should be grateful for how God used him.
Wasn't he GERMAN? He became a Roman Catholic priest, but that didn't make him "roman." He MIGHT have become a Greek Orthodox priest. That would not have made him "greek."
Of course, Germany didn't unite for a LONG time, but he SPOKE German and his education was German.
I'm sure he spoke Latin too, but that didn't make him Latin either.
Luther was a Catholic priest.
Thanks for sharing your insights about nationality and language.
Thanks for reading it.
I know. I was simply taking issue with his being called a "roman priest."
On the level of labels,
it does seem to me that
you're more of a "Martian"
than you are a "Christian".
Bizarre.
The church, made up of every sincere follower of Jesus Christ, born again from repentance and a commitment to God through his Son, is the bride of Christ.
To have Mary be the mother of Jesus AND wife of Jesus is unscriptural blaspheme.
Interesting that none of the Catholic acolytes have come to defend that statement...
I guess they don’t have a “Look, over there” diversion strong enough to “refute” the truth shining into the darkness of this particular perversion of who Mary truly is.
