For Catholics, the priesthood is synonymous with the presbyterate. The real question is the authority associated with the word. The American Heritage College dictionary says, def. #1 that a presbyter is a priest in various hierarchial churches, #2 a teaching/ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church.
