My child was born today. She is in the ICU at Iowa City. We made it 34 weeks. So far baby's lungs are the main issue, but she is progressing ok
No, and my bride doesn’t want to breast feed. We had major issues with my oldest daughter, and ended up using formula. Right now my bride is pumping (a lot) and we are fortifying the milk. We have a chest freezer full of milk so far, and have been talking about donating some to the Iowa Milk Bank.
I’m happy she’s getting the benefit of the milk. It will be great when she’s closer to home.
Blessings to your family. I’ll continue to keep Dani in my prayers.
Something you’d have to do away from doctors’ care because they tend not to approve, just to look into, is the Weston A. Price homemade raw milk formula. It’s so rich with healthy ingredients and fats that it is arguably healthier than the breast milk from a woman with a poor diet.
There is a yahoo group filled with people who couldn’t lactate who use it.
I don’t want to get into a controversy here but some people are grateful to read up on this alternative. And some wouldn’t consider it. It’s all ok.
I will file it away. Not sure what the fortifier has in it, but the main issue is that Dani needs more calories than she can get from milk right now. My bride’s milk tested ok (they check that at the University of Iowa Hospitals), but the really want Dani to grow faster.
The fortified has a lot of minerals that premies need; ask to look at one of the packets; I show it to parents when they ask.
Just a quick update.
Dani was off all oxygen support yesterday, but they put her back on overnight because she was sating at 85% while in a deep sleep. She is taking all feedings by bottle, and gaining weight.
We are hoping to have her home next week. I am praying she doesn’t have to be on oxygen, but we will see.
Thank you for the update. Prayers continue. God Bless
Dani is (hopefully) coming home today! She has been off the oxygen for 10 days now, and is eating all feeds from the bottle!
Sooooo happy for your family. May God continue to bless your precious baby with good health!!!!
