God bless you for bothering to draw the line with the sign of peace more properly.
The sign of peace has not been done with sobriety for years, and barely retains if at all, its true meaning, which is deadly serious, and not to be an overt love fest, or marketing & sales convention style beyond your immediate proximity.
I have an usher/extraordinary minister, who goes up and down and across the aisle, missing the Lamb of God beginning. It breaks my heart. He must see himself as host and master of ceremonies, certainly as the social director.
We agree. Additionally, the sign of peace is an ‘outreach to others’ specifically not an ‘inreach to your family’.
Although personally, I am not a fan of it in any case.
I find it troubling especially during flu season when one coughs or sneezes prior to it then they extend their hand to me. Five minutes later I am required to eat from my hands. Basically I bow and nod or wave, but dont shake hands.
Good luck
Me and my wife outreach to others during the sign of peace, then hug or do nothing between each other when we are done.
We can do the inreach 24/7 and at home.
Although I’d personally prefer it to be abolished or moved to earlier in the mass. Already at one parish I attend, before the entrance procession they ask everyone to greet(which is essentially the sign of peace) so its done twice there at this FeelGood parish.
