It doesn't...No one said it did...But what it does say is:
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved
Can babies believe on the Lord??? No they can't...
Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ
Can babies repent??? Of course not...You can not pick out the words only that fit your theology...Your theology has to fit the words...All of them...
For the promise is for your children too. And if you must first be saved before being baptised, as Protestants claim, what profits you baptism in the least? The work of salvation is already done.
EXACTLY...
Baptism is for two things...The first one is that it gets you wet...The second one is a public testimony that you Believed/Repented in Jesus Christ...
846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers?335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:
Nowhere in the scriptures say salvation goes thru the 'body'...Salvation does not go thru the church members...It does not go thru ANY of the clergy...
Paul says we plant and water but it is God only who provides salvation...
Salvation goes from God directly to the sinner and the sinner is then put into the church...God would not let anything of the creation handle his salvation...
What deception they provide...
No one said it did, but someone was insisting on being pointed to the exact word "babies." I was pointing out that neither does it say "adults only."
"Can babies repent??? Of course not...You can not pick out the words only that fit your theology...Your theology has to fit the words...All of them..."
Consider John 3:5 in light of Luke 18:15 "Then they also brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to Him and said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God." "EXACTLY...Baptism is for two things...The first one is that it gets you wet...The second one is a public testimony that you Believed/Repented in Jesus Christ..."
Again, John 3:5 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except any one be born of water and of Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
Sure doesn't sound to me that baptism is purely symbolic.
That is why in baby baptisms the godparents have a role to play with the parents in the Christian upbringing of the child.
There is no baptism in that verse...Water does not mean baptism...And baptism does not mean water...Look it up in any dictionary...
We have to be careful to look at all passages that are relevant to a question. The Lord didn’t make His Bible like a rule book or book of law, in which case it would be like the IRS tax code or a legal contract to read. All passages on who can be a believer suggest the person has to be old enough to repent and believe. Just in Pakistan there was a baby charged with murder, and the charges were dropped, I believe, after international attention was brought to it.
Another example of the need to read this way (and there are many more like it) is Matthew 23:9: “You must call no one on earth your father...”- Jesus (Catholic Bible). (Cont’d)
That's an illegitimate practice created by your religion to keep people in bondage to the religion...No one can repent for someone else...The bible is so clear in so many places that one must Believe/Repent before baptism takes place...
Context is our friend.
When looking at the passage in Acts, the Gospel was also preached to the jailer’s household. And, if infants and children below a certain age or understanding wouldn’t have been considered old enough to repent and believe, then they simply wouldn’t have been included in the “whole household.” Another thought to consider, too, when the phrase, “and your children” was included, is the idea of age and eldership in older societies. Most societies up until now have respected age, and the elders would be first addressed. That could figure into that passage, too.
.....The elders who in turn brought the younger ones along.
“And your children” could mean adult children, even grand-children and beyond, including unborn generations. In fact, the idea of future generations of children yet to be born is definitely at least in part what’s meant there if you look at many other places in the Bible where that’s the concern and is what’s meant. The Bible speaks very often of future generations yet to be born.
**Baptism is for two things...The first one is that it gets you wet...The second one is a public testimony that you Believed/Repented in Jesus Christ...**
Thou that testifies that the scriptures rule....let me finish the verse that you strangely chose not to:
**Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ** FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
(I did insert a comma after ‘Repent’, cuz that’a the way it is in my KJV)
And suppose someone only obeyed the part about being baptized in Jesus’ name, but didn’t repent. They got baptized because they saw some benefit to themselves to being a Christian, but inwardly they were still self-willed. Would their baptism do anything for them then?
**There is no baptism in that verse...Water does not mean baptism...And baptism does not mean water...Look it up in any dictionary...**
Well, the Ethiopian eunuch needed your dictionary:
..and the eunuch said, “See, here is water; what doth hinder me from being baptized?”.......and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water...” (WHAT?? They could have just sprinkled! /sarc)
OT type and shadow of the Lord’s command for being “born of water, and of the Spirit”:
“Moreover, brethern, I would NOT that ye should be IGNORANT, how that ALL our fathers were under the cloud” (there’s your Spirit)”, and did ALL pass through the SEA” (there’s your water)”. And were all BAPTIZED unto Moses in the CLOUD and in the SEA.” 1Cor. 10:1,2
**Would their baptism do anything for them then?**
Only God knows. I’m just a witness to the truth, not a judge of men’s souls.
True repentance requires faith. ALSO, one has to believe (have faith) that baptism in the name of JESUS is for the REMISSION of SINS. Without faith it is impossible to please God. As Paul told the saints in Rome:
“But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have OBEYED FROM THE HEART” (faith) “that form of DOCTRINE” (Acts 2:38) “ which was delivered you. Being THEN made free from sin, Ye became the servants of righteousness.” Romans 6:17,18
Funny thing about faith, the only time somebody lacks that assurance, is when they lack faith in Christ.
So now there’s an exception where there wasn’t before.
Catholic doctrine changes, except when it doesn’t.
right.....
PF, your doctrine misunderstands the doctrine of faith.
All faith in the work of God. God the Father calls every person who becomes a believer. This is not always clearly understood by those who read about Peter being called. Our Lord Christ Jesus tells us that it is upon this rock He will build His body of believers. Note the role of Christ in this action.
He obeys the volition of the Father. The Father calls. The human who accepts and places faith in Him through Christ is then saved by Christ. Christ does nothing to glorify Himself, rather He obeys the volition of the Father and builds upon what He has been given.
We can call all day long, but without God’s Provision, we are nothing.
Then let’s put it this way: does it seem to you what is meant here is baptism only for the remission of sins, or repetance and baptism together for the remission of sins? The important thing about this, too? is that we are supposed to correct, warn, teach and encourage each other. We’re supposed to because we can be weak. The Bible says if we don’t warn a sinner, for example, that person’s blood is on our hands, and we’ll both be punished. However, if we warn someone and they don’t listen, then they’ll be punished, but their blood won’t be on our hands. Just like with any danger, the Lord expects us to take care of other people, to be our brother’s keeper. So we have to make correct judgments while the Lord makes the final one. If someone gets baptized but by their fruits one sees they haven’t repented, then we must warn them about the path they’re on. So we can say from this, too, that baptism all by itself doesn’t bring remission from sins.
No.
It has been said that Secret Service agents learning to detect counterfeit bills don't study fake, but real bills. If they know what a real bill looks like they can detect a fake.
Pastors who preach the Gospel, in season and out, will have flocks who can discern the truth.
