I think of Paul as having a lot of common sense and believe he made sense on most of what he said, I also believe him to be more at odds with the chosen apostles than he was with them.

Paul is at odds with what the other apostles were taught before the full revelation of the church that was revealed to Paul by the risen Lord...I don't know how any one could read the scriptures and not see that...

God offered the Kingdom to the Jews...They turned him down...He then offered to adopt them into the church...For the most part they rejected that also...

It did no good to threaten them...It did no good to show them love...So God resorted to doing something to make them jealous (Rom 11)...And to make them jealous, he changed some rules and revealed those to the apostle Paul...

That does not explain Pauls attitude as far as the other apostles are concerned as they were already preaching to the gentiles and had been for many years, I do not believe any rules were changed an just revealed to Paul.

In fact I do not believe any rules were changed, if I did I maybe would start talking to the Joseph Smith crowd.

Acts 15
7
And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

No one disputed what Peter said, including Paul.
